HELLENiQ UPSTREAM

In the context of research activities: critical habitats for the biodiversity of marine mammals such as cetaceans, Mediterranean seals and turtles. Significant work has been done for the minimization of the impacts to the environment and the ecosystem. The upstream sector has the wider application of Best Available Techniques for the environmental protection than any other sector in Greece. Over and above, geophysical activities are carried out applying high safety standards as per International Oil & Producers (IOGP) and International Association of Geophysical Contractors (IAGC Guidelines).

Particular attention is addressed for protection of marine species, thus fully implementing the requirements of the “ACCOBAMS” Treaty as well as the guidelines of the Joint Conservation Committee (JNCC) for the protection of cetaceans.

HELLENiQ RENEWABLES

Two wind farms are installed in a Natura SPA habitat but operate only using a bird monitoring and collision prevention system which stops WTGs in case of a bird coming close by. Further to that, all videos are reviewed by a team of environmentalists to confirm the stable and correct operation of the said system.

Also, in the Kozani 204MW solar power plant, the fences have been designed leaving a small 10-15 cm distance from the ground. This allows small animals/ fauna to move freely within the plots allocated to the power plants.
